Comic Quick Takes - December 14, 2005 review

JLA #123

This comic is 'ending' soon. We all know that means it will come back in some other form - I really don't see DC being without the JLA. I've enjoyed these last few issues, it's nice to see some of the lesser known (or used) characters in the spotlight. Here we have The Key continuing his plan of killing everyone. As usual, Green Arrow gets off a few choice lines. I am tempted to check out his monthly, if he is anything there like he is here.

Batman: Legends Of The Dark Knight #198

Again, I'll remind everyone I really dislike how Batman is drawn in this arc. Fortunately, the story is really good, and the teams change with each arc, so it's not permanent, or long term. In this arc, a petty criminal that batman took down and forgot about returns with revenge on the brain It's refreshing to see him face off with a normal enemy once and a while. This one gets by on the writing alone. LOTDK is not being canceled.

Batman: Gotham County Line #3

I need to read this one again, maybe more than once. I am not even going to try to explain what happened here, without laying out the entire story. I did enjoy tharis run, it's a bit of a supernatural/horror take on Batman. If you like your comics to color outside the lines occasionally, you'll enjoy this. Watch for a nice surprise appearance from The Phantom Stranger - that alone sealed this arc for me.

Marvel Knights Spider-Man #21

I gave up on this arc, but came back and am glad I did. It's finally getting interesting. Again, it's hard for me to review this without spoilers, so let's just say that the word 'evolve' in the title is starting to take place. And once again I'll say that I really dislike the artwork on MK: SM. There are people that I am sure absolutely hate this arc, and if it goes too far south, I am sure they will find a way to retcon it later. The masses don't always like change, and prefer their heroes to be the same now as forty years ago, with maybe some cosmetic upgrades. If this arc keeps up the way it's going, there will be some sort of change.

New Avengers: Most #1

Not much to review here, I got this to fill in some of the background of The New Avengers which I've started reading. It's basically a who's who of villains. Decent artwork, detailed bios. Good for those of us unfamiliar with some of the bad guys.
