Comic Quick Takes - November 23, 2005 review
Sorry things are a little late this week, holidays and all. I hope everyone had a nice one.
Cat Woman #49
When we last left Selina, she was lying on the ground with an angle (yes, the carpenters tool) stuck in her forehead. Let's just say she's ok, and managed to end the onslaught of criminals with funny names that were attempting to take over the East End. No rest for the wicked, of course, and Selina gets a surprise visit from Zatanna. Which, in my mind, does not bode well for her. Can't wait to see where they go with this. Catwoman is consistently good each week, and in my book, very underrated.
Vigilante #3
I am really digging this run. Vigilante is sort of like DC's version of the Punisher. He's a good guy (I suppose that is debatable), but his judgements are rather final. The people he targets certainly deserve it, but I wonder how long before he attracts the attention of the resident Boy Scout of Metropolis. This issue didn't really give much more info on his identity, but seeing him lying on a therapist couch going over his childhood is fun. I've got suspicions on who he may be, but I am not 100% sure. Check this one out, it's only six issues.
Wraithborn #3
I ALMOST dropped this one last month. I really liked the first, but the second just went right downhill, in the writing department. Number three brings things back up a bit, and has some fine art to boot. If you like Michael Turner or Jim Lee, check out this series. I really like the art style Joe Benitez brings. Again, we don't really move the story along much, but that's ok, there were some nice action frames here, and I really liked the look of the new character they introduced. I'll keep with this one. Another six issue run.
Batman: Gotham Knights #71
Ahh, the love-it-or-hate-it book. I didn't mind this arc. Some think that they have pretty much milked the Hush teat dry, and I can see that. Everything comes together nicely here, Alfred is cured of his clayfaceitis, and there pretty much is no doubt who Hush really is. Not great, not terrible either. Only two more issues, since it's one of the ones that DC is terminating.
I dropped the Spider-Man 'Other' series. It just got worse every issue. There is too much going on in the DCU right now for me to waste my cash and time on mediocre comics. I also picked up the anniversary issue of Arkham Asylum (appreciate the signifigance, but not my favorite comic) and part one of Batman: Hush. I love they way Jim Lee draws, and I have no problem admitting it. He's up there with Michael Turner when it comes to my favorite Batman artists.
